Nitish grew up in Toronto after having moved from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 4. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from McMaster University, Nitish returned to Toronto for medical school, graduating from the MD Program at the University of Toronto in 2023. Thereafter, Nitish remained at UofT for residency, joining the Cardiac Surgery program later that year. While attending the University of Toronto, Nitish cultivated a passion for cardiovascular surgery from a both a clinical and academic lens. In particular, he developed a keen interest in the pathophysiology and spectrum of management options for heart failure, including pharmacotherapies, structural heart interventions, and advanced surgical treatments. In addition to heart failure, Nitish’s current research focuses include perioperative care and pain medicine, as well as complex adult congenital heart disease. Finally, Nitish also has an interest in medical education, having been a leader of several mentorship and tutoring services for students requiring additional support. Outside of medicine, Nitish is an avid reader, a hockey player and sports fanatic, as well as a jazz music and performance arts enthusiast.
