KEVIN AN

Kevin was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. During his undergraduate years at St. Andrews, he spent time in the anatomy lab where he discovered his passion for anatomy and surgery. During medical school at McMaster University, he solidified his interest in cardiac surgery and clinical outcomes research under the mentorship of Drs. Richard Whitlock and Emilie Belley-Côté. Kevin joined the Cardiac Surgery Residency program at the University of Toronto in 2018.

Kevin has a keen interest in clinical research, technology and innovation within cardiac surgery. He is currently completing a post-doctoral research fellowship with Dr. Mario Gaudino at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, with a focus on clinical outcomes research in myocardial revascularization. He is also completing his MPH in clinical epidemiology, effectiveness and biostatistics at Harvard University.

His clinical interests include cardiothoracic transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, multiple arterial grafting and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. He has published over 20 manuscripts, in journals such as the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

Outside of medicine, Kevin enjoys travelling, having visited over 20 countries. He also enjoys playing tennis, skiing and keeping up with current affairs.
